NHTSA Says Black Boxes “Essential” for Vehicle’s Safety, Drivers’ Privacy will be Protected

Earlier this month, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that it wants the U.S. government to make black boxes, or event data recorders (EDRs) as is the official term, mandatory in all new vehicles that will be built after September 2014.

According to the NHTSA, almost all new passenger cars and light-duty vehicles (96 percent, to be precise) currently on sale have the EDR capability built in, and 91 percent already have them installed by their manufacturers.

Damn, Where Did That Slab of Concrete Come From?

We're going to guess that Taiwanese authorities placed a slab of concrete in front of this zebra crossing to protect pedestrians from vehicles, but it also seems to work as a punishment tool for impatient drivers.

Take this gifted driver of a black Toyota sedan, who not only disregarded the red light but also tried to make a quick illegal left turn.

Enjoy Four Minutes of Made in Japan Drift Crashes

Just because some of the best drifters in the world come from the Land of the Rising Sun, doesn't mean that they're all immune to mishaps. On the contrary; they happen all the time.

But if you’re still in doubt, here's a video compilation of drift crashes made by our friends over at Japan's Car@nifty.

Smart Call by Korean Driver Faced with Out of Control Bus

Sometimes people like to criticize other drivers for not acting promptly when faced with a danger on the road, but truth is, it's one thing watching it from the comfort of your home through a video and a completely different experience when you're sitting behind the wheel and have only seconds - if not less, to make a decision. Oops!...I Did It Again…

We guess everybody is entitled to a mistake on the road, but when you try to run away from your "mistake" only to repeat it moments later, then it's not called a mistake but more like a case of drunk driving…

If you are patient enough to keep watching the video through the 18-second mark, you will see a full-size black sedan rear-ending a small commercial truck before the driver attempts to drive away on the opposite lane of the road only to smash into…another car.

Watch Real Life Mad Max Terrorize an Australian Driver During an Extreme Road Rage Incident

With all the incidents filmed on Russian roads, (you can head over to Jalopnik for some of the best dashcam clips of 2012 – we're preparing our own list, too), we rarely say this about a road rage incident, but WOW.

There's road rage, there's psychotic and then there's "this windshield ain't going to stop me punching your face" kind of rage, which makes Mad Max and Toecutter look like Care Bears…

We only get to hear and watch one side of the story in this incident as the perpetrator has yet to be interviewed, or captured by the police, for that matter, but here's what went on.

Watch a Mudslide Knock Down and Derail a Train in Washington

You could say that videographer John Hill was at the right time at the right place when a mudslide hit and derailed a Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNFS) freight train between Seattle and Everett in Washington State on Monday evening, but then again, one might have expected that this would eventually have happened... What the Blazing Sparks Just Happened Here?

If our calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious shit.

But seriously now and putting aside one of the most memorable quotes from the Back to the Future flick, can you tell from this short dashcam video, what exactly occurred in this incident, which may or may not have taken place on a New Jersey highway?

Oh, Oh, Someone Just Ditched an Alfa Romeo 4C Prototype…

It's been a year and nine months since Alfa Romeo pulled the covers off the impressive 4C Sports Coupe concept at the 2011 Geneva motor show, and even though it had been initially suggested that we could see the final production model on sale this year, obviously that never happened.

Alfa Romeo officials have said that this may happen sometime in 2013, but with the Italian brand, one can never take these statements for granted – Alfa's on and off return to the U.S. market is a prime example…

Well, while we're waiting for the Italians to give us a date on the only interesting model it has in store for us , a driver in Italy spotted a camouflaged prototype of the 4C coupe -ahem- stranded on the side of a road.

Good One Bro! Acura NSX Aquaplanes Off the Road Narrowly Missing Bridge

The driver of a modded Acura NSX, sold as a Honda in markets outside of North America, was filmed by a passenger of a Nissan 240SX (we don't know if he was one of his buddies or not) following on from behind when he lost control of the Japanese sports car on a freeway north of the city of San Diego in California.

Given the heavy rain and the fact that the NSX doesn't look like it was going fast, we'll have to assume that the wet conditions forced the mid-engine coupe to aquaplane and slide off the road.

This Truck Driver Could Definitely Use a Backup Camera

Think you're having a bad day? How about this Audi motorist who was caught behind a truck whose driver missed a turn and then simply decided to back up on the road.

As you would expect, such a big vehicle has many blind spots, especially towards the rear, which is why their drivers should exercise extra caution when attempting any change of direction.

Acura NSX Wedged Between a Toyota Minivan and a Subaru Impreza Outback Sport

Oh, the horror…Can you imagine being the owner of an Acura (Honda for the rest of the world) NSX sports car and waking up to see your beloved ride sandwiched between a Toyota Sienna and a Subaru Impreza Outback Sport?

All this and more went down yesterday morning in the town of Maynard in Massachusetts with Reddit forum member Cerberus73 capturing pictures of the bizarre scene from his office located across the road.

Playing Real Life Bumper Cars isn't in the Least Amusing

As scary as this incident may have been for the driver and passengers of the vehicle fitted with the dashboard camera, it could have ended, worse…much, much worse.

The passenger car was traveling on the highway when a truck on the opposite side of the road (look at the 15-second mark) suddenly turned or lost control, we cannot be certain from this distance, and crossed through the other lane.

Dedicated Traffic Officer Hit by a Truck gets on his Feet and Goes Back to Work!

Talk about impeccable work ethics. A police officer, who according to some online commentators, was directing traffic in Kazakhstan (if the incident occurred in another country, leave us a note below), was knocked down by a careless truck driver.

We could be wrong, but from what we can tell, the truck looks like it drove over the cop's foot before it continued on its way.

Teen Girl Messes Up BMW Z4 Roadster while Trying to Exit Parking [NSFW]

We've all had our moments when it comes to parking and/or driving our cars, but since we doubt that anyone can be as bad as this driver - a teenage girl, according to the person filming the incident, we're going to say that she probably had one too many drinks…

The teen girl in the BMW Z4 roadster first hits the pavement and the wall of a building in front, then puts the vehicle in reverse smashing into the car parked on the right side, before she goes forward and trashes it again!

NHTSA Wants Black Boxes Made Mandatory in New Cars – But 90 Percent Already Have Them!

By now, you must be aware that there’s no such thing as privacy on the internet. It’s not a conspiracy theory, just the way the medium has evolved.

The funny thing is that a large number of people are willingly disclosing important information about themselves, their lives, almost everything they do in many cases, in social media.

Even if you aren’t one of those people, though, the sad truth is that everything is tracked, recorded and stored somewhere. Now, the NSA, NCIS, CSI or some other agency with a funny acronym may not come knocking on your door but nevertheless it’s all being done without your consent.

What Exactly Was this Bicyclist Trying to Do?

Good old Russia (or so we’re told that this incident happened in the land of fire and ice) never fails to entertain us.

Who knows why, though we're pretty sure you can think of a few reasons if you try hard enough, but a bicyclist travelling on the road tried to jump over a car that was slowly heading towards him.

This is What Happens When You Ignore Speed Signs on a Twisty Road

Many motorcycles are built for speed, but you have to keep in mind that you should always carefully select the time and place to put a bike and your own limits to the test.

A biker, who we come to know by his YouTube alias "RiceRocketKev", learned that the hard and painful way – they always do, don’t they?- while rocketing through a twisty mountain road, but was blessed to live another day to tell the tale.

His GoPro helmet camera filmed the incident that started with RiceRocketKev blasting by a group of other motorcycles. About a minute or so later, he passes and…ignores a 20mph (32km/h) speed sign going around 85mph (137km/h).

Mexican Presidential Guard Motorcyclist Overlooks Speed Bump and Goes Flying Into the Air

Seems we spoke a few days too soon when we said that Laurent Cochet, a.k.a. Lolo, a French journalist with the Moto Journal magazine, made the biggest motorcycle fail of the year when he hit a metal post with his Yamaha FJR 1300 and fell face first into a boat.

We now have a new and much stronger candidate for that award, and he comes to us from Mexico. An unnamed police motorcyclist was travelling in front a presidential motorcade in Mexico City when he overlooked the speed bump on the road. Huge mistake…

Asshat BMW Driver Tailgates and Honks Down a Couple on a Scooter

There's a saying among some car enthusiasts about BMW drivers and porcupines. Obviously, we're not going to generalize and apply that trait to all Bimmer drivers, but we are going to say that this is indeed the case with the man driving this particular BMW.

Even if we accept the video poster and BMW driver's claims that the scooter driver and his passenger were drunk as skunks (and that's debatable), what he did next is inexcusable and makes no sense.
