2013 North American Car and Truck of the Year Finalists: Which Ones Do You Think Will Win?

Last year, Ford, with its Focus, was the sole U.S. manufacturer included in the final list for the North American Car and Truck of the Year award and it finished in third place, behind the VW Passat and the winner, Hyundai’s Elantra.

Even more surprising was the truck class where the Range Rover Evoque beat the Honda CR-V and the BMW X3. Where is this world coming to if U.S. manufacturers can’t build an SUV or truck to make an impression in their own market?

Ford Says C-MAX Hybrids Outsells Toyota Prius Plug-in and V in its First Full Month of Availability

Ford has taken yet another swipe at Toyota in the battle of the hybrids. The Blue Oval announced that in November, their first full month of availability, combined sales of its C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid in the U.S. reached 4,846 units beating the 4,456 deliveries of the Prius Plug-in and Prius V hybrids delivered by Toyota.

“The C-MAX hybrids are off to a great start and our dealers and customers, especially in California, cannot get enough of them early in the launch”, said Ford general marketing manager Dave Mondragon.

EPA to Review Ford Fusion and C-MAX Hybrids After Consumer Reports’ MPG Findings

Ford has been making a lot of noise about the mileage of its Fusion and C-MAX hybrids, claiming that their 47 mpg city/highway/combined mileage easily beat rival Toyota Camry and Prius models.

When tested by Consumer Reports (CR) though, both Ford hybrids' MPGs were found overstated. Actually, that’s an understatement: the publication bashed the two Blue Oval hybrids saying that “these two vehicles have the largest discrepancy between our overall-mpg results and the estimates published by the EPA that we’ve seen among any current models.”

Ouch! That must have hurt…

Consumer Reports Slams Ford for Overstating Fusion and C-MAX Hybrids 47MPG Fuel Economy

If you've been following our news stories, you will no doubt be aware of Ford's brazen mpg claims about the Fusion Hybrid sedan and the C-Max Hybrid minivan, and how both trump Toyota models.

To remind you, Ford states that both the new 2013 Fusion Hybrid and C-Max Hybrid deliver "47 city/47 highway/47 combined mpg".

Fueled [pun intended] by the recent discovery that Hyundai and Kia overstated the gas mileage on some 900,000 vehicles sold in the U.S. in the past couple of years, Consumer Reports (CR) put Ford's mpg claims to the test, and the results were far below the 47mpg mark.

General Electric to Buy 2,000 C-MAX Energi Plug-In Hybrids from Ford

Ford has just made its largest plug-in electrified vehicle fleet sale to date after General Electric (GE) agreed to purchase 2,000 examples of the Blue Oval's new C-MAX Energi minivan.

With the addition of the Ford vehicles, the number of alternative fuel vehicles in GE’s fleet will surpass the 5,000 mark. The company said that its goal is to have a global fleet of 25,000 units of such vehicles.

Ford Triples Number of Dealers that Can Sell EVs and Plug-In Hybrids

In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a hybrid, plug-in and all-electric vehicle war raging in the U.S. new car market right now and Ford is one of the parties engaged in it.

Attacking Toyota and its Prius range claiming that its own hybrids are superior isn’t the only way the Blue Oval plans to boost the sales of its “green” fleet that by early 2013, will include the hybrid and plug-in (“Energi” in Ford-talk) versions of the C-MAX and the Fusion, and the pure-electric Focus EV.

MT Puts Ford’s Claims to the Test, Pits C-MAX Hybrid Against Toyota Prius V

The Toyota Prius is the best-selling hybrid in the world. Which is unsurprising, really, considering that it is currently in its third generation and its line-up has been expanded with both bigger and smaller variants.

It’s also squarely on the sights of Ford, which is constantly comparing its new C-MAX Hybrid against the Prius V, which is the minivan version of the series, be it in commercials or sales figures.

It has gone as far as saying that its own model is “better and more-fuel efficient” than the Prius V.

Mine's Bigger Than Yours: Ford Brags About the C-MAX Hybrid Outselling the Toyota Prius v

There's no end in sight to Ford's war of words against Toyota and its Prius family of hybrid models. Adding to a long list of press releases and statements targeting the Japanese brand's hybrid models, Ford came out with a new announcement today saying the 47mpg C-MAX Hybrid outsold the Prius v minivan in its first full sales month. Ford's European Restructuring Plan Leads to the Closure of Two UK Facilities, Mondeo Delayed

After announcing plans to shut down its Genk factory in Belgium at the end of 2014, Ford came out today with new details about its European restructuring efforts that include the closure of two more plants, the allocation of production, the loss of up to 6,200 jobs and other actions to increase cost efficiencies.

The announcements come against the backdrop of the persisting economic crisis in Europe with Ford estimating its loses in the region for the full year 2012 to exceed $1.5 billion (€1.15 billion).

The two additional factories receiving the axe are the Southampton Transit van plant, which is Ford's last vehicle-making facility in the United Kingdom, and its stamping and tooling operations in Dagenham, again in England.
