2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Gets All-Wheel Drive Option, C&D Gets an Exclusive First Look

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class was officially revealed about a week ago and is clearly more than your typical middle-cycle facelift. Last time we checked, even though it sports a more aggressive face, the 2014MY has…18 engine options, at least in Europe, and none of them bears the AMG moniker.

But fear not, there’s going to be a new E63 AMG alongside the rest of the new E-Class range at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show. In fact, we’ve already snapped the new car doing the mandatory rounds in the Nordschleife a couple of months ago as well as a camouflage free model in Spain.

EVO Drag Races Shelby GT500 Mustang and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe

The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe and the Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang are two different cars from two separate schools of thought that we seriously doubt will ever be cross-shopped by consumers even in North America where they are both available. In Europe, even if one wanted to, you can't officially buy the Ford.

Despite their many differences, there's one thing that both cars lay claim to being good at: straight line acceleration, and it is this aspect of the two sports models that UK car magazine EVO set out to put to the test with a good ol' fashion drag race.

Revamped 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Gets New Face, Engines and Tech [69 Photos & Video]

When the first photos of the 2014 E-Class surfaced, it was instantly obvious that Mercedes-Benz’s mid-size premium model wasn’t a simple nip-and-tuck job, as is customary with mid-life facelifts. Instead, Stuttgart’s designers had gone to the trouble of completely changing the entire front end of the car.

First of all, they ditched the four separate headlamps, an E-Class staple since 1995, in favor of a single one-piece unit on each side that encompasses all lighting elements. Mercedes says that the graphic design of the inner elements retain the “four-eyed” look while both the day-time running lights and the dipped beam have partial LED lights as standard and full LED lights are offered as an option.

For the first time, the E-Class, like the smaller C-Class, will be available with two different front-end designs. The base and Elegance trim levels feature the classic grille with three louvers and the three-pointed star on the bonnet, while the Avantgarde gets the sporty treatment with the star integrated in the grille.

In profile, the 2014 E-Class replaces the pontoon-style rear side panels with a new feature line that runs from the rear door to the elongated, LED taillights and, according to the company, emphasizes the side trim that has been shifted downwards and gives the car a more elongated shape.

MT Pits Mercedes S65 AMG Against Bentley Mulsanne, Finds Out How The 1% Live

All those fat cats out there might buying their Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Paganis or whatever they fancy but, let’s face it, these supercars are not really that practical to drive day in, day out. In fact, most of the privileged of this world don’t even get to drive on a regular basis like the rest of us do: they are chauffeured.

Motor Trend’s Jonny Lieberman says that the one thing the rich don’t have is time – so whatever free time they get, like when being in the back seat of their car, they want it to be special.

Mercedes’ LA Show Ener-G-Force Would Make One Cool Looking G-Class

This year’s LA Auto Show Design Challenge theme was about the ultimate highway patrol vehicle of 2025. Mercedes-Benz was one of the carmakers that picked up the gauntlet and its Advanced Design Center California came up with the Ener-G-Force patrol concept.

Their work was deemed good enough to turn the “pure science fiction” Highway Patrol Vehicle into a full-size concept car. Instead of a law enforcement vehicle, though, it became a study of how the G-Wagen, a hardcore off-roader that has been with us since 1979 might evolve in the future.

New Cadillac ATS 3.6 vs. BMW 335i and Mercedes C350 in MT's 6-Cylinder Rematch

Like the VW Golf, the BMW 3-Series has been dominant for so long, shrugging off one newcomer after another, that it practically defined the premium compact sports sedan segment.

This, of course, makes it not only harder for BMW engineers to come up with something better every time there's a replacement due, but it also makes it the car all rivaling manufacturers have set as their benchmark.

Cadillac has made quite a fuss about its new ATS being a bona-fide, Nürburgring-bred sports saloon that can take on the best – i.e. the brand new, F30 3-Series.

Evo Performance Car of the Year 2012: The Track Battle Video

When the year draws to its end, one thing you can be sure of is that you’ll be hearing, reading and watching a lot of “Car of the Year” memos. At some point, it really gets too much because everyone and their aunt think that they should crown a COTY.

It’s a free world, or most of it at least since there’s no North Korean COTY as far as we know, so everyone’s entitled to his/her opinion.

Even though the image below may look like it’s straight out of a D1 drift challenge, it’s actually a still from Evo magazine’s 2012 performance car of the year competition, or eCOTY as they call it.

The British publication rounded up the 10 best driver’s car that it has sampled in the past 12 months and it’s a pretty idiosyncratic bunch, ranging from the Morgan 3 Wheeler to the mighty Pagani Huayra.

Mercedes-Benz Video Teases 2014 E-Class Family's Redesigned Headlamps

The story of the facelifted 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class family of models is slowly starting to unfold with the Stuttgart-based premium carmaker dropping the first of what we assume to be a series of official teaser videos before the new model launches at the Detroit auto show in January.

In a video that's less than a minute long, the brand with the star gives us a close up of the 2014 E-Class' new individual headlamp units that replace the current model's quad arrangement.

Mercedes-Benz Creates Anime Short Series to Support New A-Class Launch in Japan

You can probably get away using the same promotional materials in related markets (i.e. among European countries), but for the best results in regions where consumers have a different mindset, it's always better to come up with a different idea, one that is tailored to meet local needs.

And this is precisely what Mercedes-Benz's marketing division has done in Japan to support the launch of its brand-new A-Class premium hatchback, which will arrive in showrooms on January 17, 2013.

S for Success: Mercedes-Benz Celebrates Half a Century of the World’s Best-Selling Luxury Car

Luxury vehicles have been a Mercedes-Benz staple since the early 20th century. Discounting pre-WWII models, from 1951, when production resumed, it has sold more than 3.5 million of its range-topping saloons, which makes the latter the best-selling luxury vehicle in the world.

As you’ve probably already guessed by now, we’re referring to the S-Class, although this designation, an abbreviation of Sonderklasse, which is German for “in another class”, wasn’t officially applied until the 1972 model.

The S-Class and its predecessors have not only being the pinnacle of Mercedes’ efforts but it has also pioneered technologies, especially in the safety front, that have then spread to the rest of its models.

Mercedes-Benz Shows SLS AMG Black Series Edition on the Move for the First Time

If you are wondering how the new limited-run SLS AMG Black Edition looks on film, you're in luck, but if you are also pondering what its racier 6.2-liter V8 sounds like after Stuttgart's engineers performed their magic pushing output to 622-horses (631PS), you will have to do without it, as for some reason, Mercedes decided to dress the clip with music… Read more »

Mercedes-Benz Celebrates 30th Anniversary of the 190E Compact Saloon [64 Photos]

For car fans old enough to remember, November 1982, was the month Mercedes-Benz first entered the compact segment with the W201, i.e. the 190 and 190E models. Up to that point, the base model of the three-pointed star was the mid-size 200 E.

Today, it may occupy more niches than even its bean counters can remember, and more are on their way, but 30 years ago, the 190/190 E compact saloon was only the third family car, alongside the 200E and the S-Class, in Merc's range.

The “baby Benz”, as it was known, was designed by the great Bruno Sacco, featured a multilink rear suspension and was initially available with a 2-liter petrol engine delivering 88 and 120HP in the 190 and 190 E respectively.

In 1993, the 71HP 190D four-cylinder diesel and the sporty 190 E 2.3-16, which was powered by a new 16-valve four-cylinder with 182HP, were added to the model’s range.

In the following years, the line-up of Merc’s compact saloon would grow further, reaching its peak in 1988 with the 190 E 2.5-16 – a compact sports sedan that started out with 192HP and, at the end of its development, produced up to 232HP in the Evolution models.

Scoop: Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series Keeps its Cool on Video

Spy shooters have recorded a prototype of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series running a few hot laps around the Nürburgring, and unlike last time, when the car caught on fire and burned to the ground, this one was able to complete the test…unscathed.

The SLS AMG Black Series Edition will be the ultimate street-legal version of the regular SLS AMG GT with many performance enhancements including a tweaked 6.2-liter V8 engine producing as much as 650-ponies, and a look to match its newly found power.

That's One Way to Destroy to a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen…

Besides being amongst the most recognizable and oldest cars in production, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagen is also a tremendously capable off-road vehicle and one of the very few models in its class to use three fully locking differentials.

Nevertheless, you can understand that there are limits to what it can achieve. For example, attempting to conquer an extremely steep hillside cresting close to a 90-degree angle at full speed is practically begging for trouble.
