Honda Gets its Mojo Back: Consumer Reports Puts 2013 Accord on Top of its Class

Despite the (in)famous 2012 Civic episode, there seems to be no bad feelings between Honda and Consumer Reports (CR). The publication may have dropped the 2012 Civic from its recommended list pressuring for a quick redesign, but Honda can relax as far as its U.S. market best-seller is concerned.

In fact, it may even smile as CR has put the 2013 Accord at the top of its class in four-cylinder guise while it notes that the V6 version is “challenging the Toyota Camry for the top spot” in its ratings.

Someone Should Find this Driver and Report Him/Her to the Police

Making an honest mistake while sitting behind the wheel is one thing, being careless or to put it bluntly, a complete asshat, is quite another.

On Sunday, the driver of a previous generation Honda CR-V (possibly in Taiwan - if we're wrong, tell us in the comments) was filmed by a motorcyclist making an extremely dangerous move on the road when he or she drove between a Nissan Sentra and a scooter driven by a father with his child riding at the back, almost knocking them down.

New Acura App Lets You Put Some Color to NSX Pre-Production Concept

We’ve seen it in the flesh at motor shows; we've seen it in virtual form on GT5; we've seen it with Honda badges; we've seen it in a Super Bowl commercial; we've seen it in a red shade, and we've even seen it as a roadster in a Hollywood blockbuster.

Yes, we're talking about the Acura NSX pre-production concept and if you haven't figured it out already, we're going to be "seeing" a lot more of the Japanese brand's hybrid sports car since it won't be ready for sale before 2014.

Watch Out: Honda and Acura Recall 807,000 Vehicles Because They Might Roll Away

If you happen to see any parked 2003-2004MY Honda Odyssey minivans and Pilot SUVs and 2003-2006MY Acura MDX crossovers, you may want to...keep your distance as the Japanese carmaker discovered that a malfunction of the ignition interlock in these vehicles may allow the key to be removed even when the transmission shift lever is not in 'Park'. Honda to Build Fit Hatch, Sedan and Crossover Models at New Mexican Plant

It’s no secret that Honda plans to introduce the new generation of the Fit (sold as the Jazz in Europe) sub-compact next year and by 2015, two more variants based on the same underpinnings, including a small sedan and a crossover model, which we believe to be based on the Urban SUV Concept that was announced earlier today in advance of its Detroit Motor Show debut. Honda Teases New Urban SUV Concept Ahead of Detroit Auto Show Debut

A single teaser image along with a very short statement is all we get about Honda's new Urban SUV Concept study that will receive its world premiere in January at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.

Here's what the Japanese automaker told us in the press blurb:

"The Urban SUV Concept, teased in a sketch released today, is a global concept model combining a sporty and dynamic SUV profile with a spacious, functional interior."

If You're Going to Anger Your Lady, You Better Hide Your Car or Else….

Reminds us not piss off any Brazilian woman. Dozens of bystanders on a street in Vila OlĂmpia, an upper-class neighborhood in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, were treated to a spectacle earlier this week when a young woman lashed out her anger on her boyfriend's or according to some other accounts, husband's black Honda Accord.

The woman used anything she could get her angry hands on, from keys to bricks, to cause as much damage as she could on the Japanese sedan.

Consumer Reports’ First Drive of 2013 Honda Civic: Did They Change Their Mind?

In the 100-plus year-old history of the motoring press, countless cars have been panned. Their makers have reacted in one of three ways: they have either refuted the verdict, often trying to “punish” the offending reviewer, ignored it and went on with their business as if nothing happened or made improvements when the time came to revamp the car.

Honda got pretty upset about the press’ reaction to its 2012 U.S. market Civic to the extent that it gave it a makeover just in time for the 2013 model year. Introducing a significantly improved model 18 months later must be an industry first – but then again, reviews like the one published by Consumer Reports apparently were too much to bear, even if sales soared.

2013 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe: All You Need to Know and See [113 Photos and Videos]

It’s not often that an established car company, such as Honda, flops on one of its most important new models. It’s even more surprising when that model, despite being panned by the press, proves to be a hit with the customers.

As you may be aware by now, that’s exactly what happened just 18 months ago when the Japanese carmaker revealed the ninth generation of the Civic: it got panned by Consumer Reports, which denied it a “recommended” rating and dropped it to the bottom of its list. As a result, CEO Takanobu Ito apologized in public and the company rushed in a facelift.

In spite of the 2012 Civic sales being up 40 percent, to 234,029 units, through September, making Honda’s compact model the sixth best-selling car in the U.S., its replacement was unveiled at the LA Auto Show.

The 2013 Civic has received a host of changes that seek to address criticism aimed at the 2012 model. The Coupe remains unchanged, save for new wheels, but the sedan features a black honeycomb mesh grille, new clear-lens corner lights and a taller, more sculpted hood up front and a new trunk lid, taillights and restyled bumper at the rear.

2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid with 115MPGe Rating Priced from $39,780*

We've already seen the new Accord but at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Honda announced that the frugal, Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) variant of the series will be available for retail sale and lease beginning January 15 in the states of California and New York, with an MSRP of $39,780, excluding a $790 destination (*) fee.

Whether or not it's worth paying close to double or about $18,000 more than the base $21,680 2013 Accord with a 185hp four-cylinder engine, or even a $10,000 premium over a fully equipped EX-L with Navigation, is something that buyers should seriously take into consideration.

First Look at 2013 Honda Civic Sedan's Interior and Si Sports Edition

It's only a matter of hours before Honda gives us a talk- and a walk-around the refreshed 2013 Civic at its scheduled press conference at the Los Angeles Motor Show, but in the meantime, here are some new pictures of the compact saloon.

To be more specific, what we have here are the first photos of the car's updated interior and the exterior of the sportier Civic Si edition, which follow an earlier pair of images showing the mid-level EX-L grade.

Honda has taken a lot of flak from the press for the current generation Civic's interior. Consumer Reports, for example, had said that the cabin "feels cheap" and is "a letdown from previous Civics".

From this image, we see that Honda has made some changes to the design of the dashboard, which now features a new center section with different air vents, new controls for the air conditioning system and at least in this grade, more upscale trim with silver finishes and leather padding on the passenger side and the upper parts of the door panels.

Honda Pulls the Wraps Off its New Low-Cost Brio Amaze Small Sedan [w/Video]

What you see here is Honda's brand new small sedan for emerging markets, mainly in Asia and countries such as Thailand, where it is called the Brio Amaze and India, where it will be offered as the Amaze.

The Amaze is the sedan derivative of the Brio five-door hatchback released last year in the same region.

In Thailand, which is the first country to receive the car, the Amaze is offered with the same 1.2-liter i-VTEC gasoline engine found on the hatch.

The four-cylinder unit produces 90 horsepower and can be matched to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT, delivering a fuel economy of 20km/lt, equal to 5.0lt/100km and 47mpg US / 56.5mpg UK.

Honda Presents 2013 CR-Z with New Li-ion Battery and Improved Output in the USA

Following the world premiere of the refreshed and slightly more powerful 2013 CR-Z at the Indonesia auto show in September before it headed to the Paris Motor Show later in the same month, Honda has brought the updated model to the U.S. market with sales to begin on November 21, 2012.

For the new model year, the CR-Z gains an all-new Lithium-Ion battery that improves performance, and at the same time, mpg ratings, along with styling upgrades to the exterior and interior.

Honda Presents 2013 Crosstour Facelift with a $525 Lower Starting Price

Honda has made some questionable decisions on its North American products over the past few years, and it is (literally) paying the price by hurrying in facelifts to rectify some of the problems for cars like the Civic sedan and the Crosstour.

The updated 2013 Crosstour comes exactly three years after Honda launched the high-riding liftback on the American market in November 2009, initially as the Accord Crosstour before it changed its name.

We first saw the crossover model wearing its refreshed skin at the New York Auto Show this past April, though, at the time, Honda baptized it as a concept. As expected, nothing has changed on the production version with the redesign giving the Crosstour a slightly more rugged exterior look.

This was achieved through a new and more prominent front grille, redesigned front and rear bumpers that now accommodate protective black moldings and silver trays, along with matching side sills. The newly designed alloy wheels in sizes 17- to 18-inches, depending on the model, a fresh assortment of colors round out the exterior makeover.

Honda Shows More of its Upcoming Brio Amaze Small Sedan in New Teaser Video

We don’t know if Honda will actually amaze consumers with its upcoming model, but we did learn that it baptized the sedan version of its Brio series Amaze (specifically, Brio Amaze for Thailand and other surrounding markets and simply Amaze for India), thanks to a new teaser video released by the manufacturer's Thai arm. Honda Announces New Lightweight and Compact 1.5-liter Petrol-Electric Hybrid Powertrain

Honda today introduced a new hybrid powertrain that will eventually replace its Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system used on small vehicles such as the Civic sedan, Insight, Fit / Jazz hatchback and CR-Z coupe.

The new system is named Sport Hybrid i-DCD, which is an acronym for 'Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive', and it comprises a newly developed 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that runs on the more fuel-efficient Atkinson cycle and an electric motor that also acts as a generator connected to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT).

Honda's Micro Commuter EV Edges Closer Towards Production

Carmakers from Europe and Japan seem to be pushing for the development of diminutive city cars powered by batteries for one or two adult passengers. Renault essentially ignited the trend with the launch of its quirky looking Twizy, which in all fairness, is more quadricycle than car.

Honda wants some piece of the action with the introduction of the new Micro Commuter Prototype that is loosely based on last year's concept of the same name displayed at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Facelifted 2013 Honda Civic Sedan Bows Ahead of LA Auto Show Debut

Even for a Japanese company, the redesign of a brand new model just 18 months after its launch onto the market is a surprising move and it suggests that there was something wrong with the car to begin with.

It all started with a hammering of the (North American market) ninth generation of the Honda Civic by Consumer Reports, which dropped the car from its "Recommended List" and continued with an admission from Honda Motor CEO Takanobu Ito that the compact model wasn't what it should have been.

Surprisingly, despite all the pounding from the press, the Civic increased its sales this year by 40 percent through September, to 234,029 units…

Sandy, Bloody Sandy: Mega-Hurricane Destroys 200,000 Vehicles, Including 15,000 New Cars

The biggest Atlantic storm ever in U.S. history, which hit New Jersey, New York and the surrounding regions with 100 mph+ (160 km/h) winds that caused at least 100 deaths, has left the East Coast counting its losses and trying to fix the damages.

The catastrophe brought about by mega-hurricane Sandy damaged or completely destroyed thousands of new and used vehicles owned by dealerships as well as individuals. According to initial estimates, Toyota, Chrysler, Nissan and Honda will have to write-off around 15,000 brand-new cars.
